Yost
My two D.S.T. sculptures involve “interaction” and “relationships”,
not only within the sculpture but “how” the viewer sees the pieces not
“what” he sees. My current “apparition” series of sculpture has evolved
from ridged geometric forms that do not include organic forms. After
juxtaposing the geometric with organic forms, it is possible that both
can enhance each other and “live in harmony”. Interactions between and
among my sculptural forms should foster questions from the viewer, I.E:
“HOW DO YOU SEE THE FORMS AS THEY RELATE TO EACH OTHER?”.” HOW DO YOU
RELATE TO OTHERS?” “HOW DO YOU THINK THAT OTHERS THINK ABOUT
RELATIONSHIPS?” “HOW DO YOU SEE CONFLICTS?” “DO YOU SEE CONFLICTS AND
HARMONY AS A PARADOX?” “WHY CAN’T WE ALL GET ALONG?”.
Charles Yost is a Chicago-based sculptor. He studied in Illinois at
Monmouth College. At the School of the Art Institute, Chicago, he
received a BFA in sculpture. While studying at Northern Illinois
University, Yost pursued many forms and materials; bronze and aluminum
casting, polyester resin, fiberglass, welded steel, stainless steel,
welded aluminum fabrication. He achieved both a Master of Arts and
Master of Fine Arts degrees in sculpture. In his works, which have been
displayed in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, Texas, Pennsylvania,
and Tennessee, Yost seeks to combine both geometric and organic
elements; interacting forms and shapes. Kinetic movement in some pieces
involve the viewer to set the forms in motion.
